Heroes’ Week Welcome Event

The Semper Fi Community Task Force kicked off Heroes’ Week 2021 with a big Alabama welcome for our guests at the Huntsville International Airport on November 5, 2021! The Welcome received news coverage from local outlets. You can view each of the broadcasts at the links below.

Heroes’ Week guests are vetted and selected with the assistance of Warrior Transition Units from each Service Branch. This year, 16 service members and 8 spouses/caregivers were able to join us from across the Country. One flew all the way from Alaska!

Task Force volunteers and community partners, as well as other individuals and groups, formed a huge flag line with the Patriot Guard Riders along the arrivals walkway. There were lots of flags waving, and shouts of welcome and thanks, accompanied by the 313th Army Band.

Following the initial welcome, many motorcyclists lined up to join the Madison County Sheriff’s Department for a motorcade that escorted our Heroes to the Westin at Bridge Street. Riders join us from various groups such as the Semper Fi Riders and Patriot Guard Riders (PGR), and as individuals. Some of our Heroes’ Week guests rode in the motorcade on various motorcycles. Even more community members greeted them at the hotel.

We are excited for the week ahead, and the opportunity to shower our Heroes with North Alabama’s love and appreciation for their service and sacrifices.
