Flag Placement for Memorial Day 2022

The VFW and other Veterans and Veterans Organizations are organizing this year’s Flag Placement for Memorial Day at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville, Alabama. The tradition of placing flags on the graves of Veterans offers an opportunity for local volunteers to show their respect for those who served our Country.
We encourage our Semper Fi Community Task Force volunteers and anyone in the community to join the team on Saturday, May 21st. Please see the details below, and contact one of the listed POCs if you have any questions.
Volunteer Event Information:
Date/Time: 9:00am, Saturday, May 21, 2022
Location: Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville (see attached map)
Volunteers: VFW, Scouts, Veterans and Veterans Organizations and more.
POCs: Michael D. Gronkowski, VFW Commander, michael.gronkowski@yahoo.com , John Perry, 256/658-2010, john.perry@irtc-hq.com or Johnna Moore (Committee Chair, Troop 400), 256/509-3406
Where to report: Maple Hill Cemetery. Enter at the south gate at McClung Ave drive north to the assembly area. We will have the flags in the pickups.
Mission: Place 1200 flags on Veterans graves. We will have area maps to hand out. Each group will have a designated area.
What to bring: Bring something to make a hole in the ground to place the flag – an old tire iron or large screwdriver.
*Please avoid any areas where funerals may be taking place until the service has concluded.
We will need help with picking up the flags. We plan to pick the flags up on the following Tuesday or Wednesday depending on the weather. We will send out an email letting you know.
Thank you! See you Saturday! God Bless!
